Aftercare advice following a massage....

Hopefully after your massage or facial you will feel more relaxed. You may experience a slight reaction within the 24 hours after a session so I just wanted to point a few things out so you know what to expect (most of these apply whether you are pregnant or not post massage). During the body’s natural healing process after a therapy session (which massage aims to help speed up/stimulate) toxins and waste are released, this can lead to mild symptoms, severe reactions are rare but you may experience:

  • A heightened relaxed state and a deeper sleep
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urine flow and or bowel movements (try leaning forward whilst you are on the toilet as this then encourages the bladder to empty fully)
  • A slight drop in body temperature or an increase in perspiration
  • Mild headache
  • Cold and Flu symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Increased energy or tiredness & lethargy
  • Any existing condition maybe more symptomatic

You can help your body’s natural healing process and ease any symptoms by trying to follow the below suggestions:

  • Drink plenty of still water
  • Avoid toxins like alcohol, caffeine, tobacco and drugs
  • Eat light natural easily digested foods
  • Have as much rest and relaxation (as possible)

Aftercare advice following Aromatherapy.....

You now have an aromatherapy product blended for your personal use to help with the symptoms. By using your product regularly, you will ensure that you are allowing these therapeutic oils the optimum chance to help you.

Aromatherapy, also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, can be defined as the art and science of utilising naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process. It is designed to treat the whole person and not just the symptom or disease by assisting the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself.

Essential oils consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed via the skin, and are inhaled into the lungs. These therapeutic constituents enter the bloodstream and are carried around the body where they can deliver their beneficial healing powers at a cellular level. Because they are highly concentrated, only a small quantity of essential oil is required to bring about results. The regular use of aromatherapy treatments and home-use products can help to strengthen the immune system, thereby establishing a preventative approach to overall health.

Prolong the treatment benefits:

If citrus oils have been used in your blend, avoid exposing your skin to strong sunlight for 48 hours.

Listen to your body—if it is telling you to rest and relax, do so if you are able. Rest will enhance the benefits of the treatment.

Aim to eat healthy food following a treatment.

Take plenty of exercise.

Do not smoke.

Possible reaction (healing crisis) to the treatment. This may be a headache, tiredness, muscular aches or an increase in urine or bowel movement. It is normal reaction and it is all part of the elimination process. It will pass within 48 hours and is the result of positive healing within the body.

Some people experience an increase in energy levels, others a decrease. It is important to take as much rest as possible to enhance the effects of the treatment.

Do not use internally, keep away from children and animals.

If you experience any worries or discomfort which might be attributed to the treatment, don’t hesitate to telephone me to put your mind at rest.

If you have had an aromatherapy facial/massage then please also consider the following:

Do not take a bath or shower for 6-8 hours following an aromatherapy massage to allow time for the absorption of the essential oils and carrier oil.

Do not drink alcohol, tea, coffee or eat  a heavy and spicy meal immediately following the treatment as this will interfere with the cleansing process.

Drink plenty of water or herbal tea to enhance the cleansing process and help with the elimination of toxins and waste.

Aim to eat healthy food following a treatment.

Do not smoke.

Keep your body warm (stimulating your circulation draws heat away from the surface of your body) but ensure you are in a well-ventilated environment (open window in car).
